HOWO vs Shacman: Which Chinese Truck Brand Is Right for You?

Truck Comparisons

HOWO vs Shacman — A Manufacturer’s Honest Comparison

As a truck builder that works with both HOWO (Sinotruk) and Shacman (Shaanxi Automobile), we get this question every day: “Which brand should I choose?” The answer depends on your application, budget and market. Here’s our unbiased comparison.

Engines

HOWO uses the Sinotruk WD615 (290–371HP) and WD12 (420HP) engines — proven, fuel-efficient and with massive spare parts availability across Africa and the Middle East. The newer MC series offers Euro V/VI compliance.

Shacman uses Weichai and Cummins engines. The Weichai WP10/WP12 series offers excellent torque for heavy-duty applications. Cummins-powered Shacman trucks are popular where Cummins service centres already exist.

Cabins

HOWO standard cabin is functional but basic. The A7 and T7H premium cabins compete with European comfort levels. The T7H is our recommendation for long-haul drivers.

Shacman cabins (especially X3000, X5000 and X6000) are generally more modern in design. The X6000 flagship cabin rivals European trucks for interior quality and is increasingly popular in Middle Eastern markets.

Durability & Reliability

Both brands are extremely durable. HOWO has a longer track record in African markets with established service networks. Shacman is gaining market share rapidly thanks to competitive pricing and modern designs. In our workshop experience, both brands are equally easy to maintain and repair.

Price

Shacman is typically 5–15% cheaper than equivalent HOWO models for new trucks. For reconditioned trucks, the price difference narrows. Both brands offer excellent value compared to European or Japanese alternatives.

Spare Parts

HOWO spare parts are the most widely available Chinese truck parts globally. Shacman parts availability is growing but can be challenging in some African markets. At Shandong TK, we supply spare parts for both brands — and for European trucks (Mercedes, MAN, Volvo, Scania) as well.

Our Recommendation

  • Choose HOWO if: spare parts availability is critical, your market already uses HOWO trucks, you want proven long-term reliability.
  • Choose Shacman if: you want the most modern cabin, a lower initial price, or you need Cummins engine compatibility.
  • Choose both: many fleet operators mix brands to diversify risk. We build both at our workshop.
